Malay subtitles are rare even on local Singapore television, but Netflix seems to want to change that with today鈥檚 launch of support for the language, just in time for Malaysia鈥檚 Independence Day celebrations.聽
The subscription-based streaming service now enables users to navigate the platform, read titles, synopses, and subtitles in Bahasa Melayu by adjusting the profile settings. The platform will then apply the language across all devices, including the login page.聽
鈥淣etflix believes in giving members control over their entire entertainment experience, and we are delighted that they are now able to choose to enjoy Netflix in Bahasa Melayu,鈥 a statement . 鈥淭his surely will improve their viewing experience and better suit members who prefer consuming Netflix in their national language.鈥
Malay shows previously added to the platform will also get Malay-language subtitles, which are already cropping up for popular shows such as Stranger Things, The Witcher, Kingdom and The Umbrella Academy.
Netflix is also adding Malay-language programming like stand-up special Dr. Jason Leong: Hashtag Blessed and Pasal Kau!, a rom-com by Malaysian director Adrian Teh.
