Spectacular lighting will again cast a fluorescent glow over Marina Bay following a two-year hiatus.

The I Light Singapore festival will return for the eighth time June 3 with more immersive and interactive artworks and a focus on environmental sustainability.

鈥淲e hope this year鈥檚 lineup of artworks and programmes will further invigorate Marina Bay and bring cheer and delight to festival-goers. At the same time, we hope that visitors will be encouraged to reflect on our individual relationships with the environment and with one another,鈥 Urban Redevelopment Authority CEO Lim Eng Hwee said.

What鈥檚 different this year will be a thematic focus on one color from the spectrum. This year鈥檚 theme 鈥淪park of Light鈥 will use violet.

Though violet has the shortest wavelength, it has the most powerful electromagnetic energy in the visible spectrum. It also signifies the awakening of the senses, 鈥渁kin to the spark of an idea in one鈥檚 mind,鈥 according to a news release.

The lights will go on at 7:30pm daily through June 26. Festival-goers can expect repurposed installations made of everyday objects and waste to spark conversations about consumption and sustainability.

One example will be an interactive projection on isolation during the pandemic by Singaporean artist Ping Lim and American collaborator Ian Grossberg. It captures vignettes of people鈥檚 lives when they were confined in their homes.

Another highlight includes a projection mapping artwork showing waste pollution by the South Korean artist group Nerdist x Artina.

Other programs are also available at Marina Bay鈥檚 Lower Boardwalk on a floating pontoon boat, with more holographic projections and trippy light beams nearby.

More programs will be later this month.
