The bad news is that Thai skateboarding OGs Preduce have closed their long-running store at Siam Square. The good news? It was to make way for a new shop and sprawling skatepark in Phra Khanong.
A grand opening bash is planned later this month for Baan Preduce, where skaters can pull off ollies and shove-its in a large indoor-outdoor skatepark. There鈥檚 even a cafe and bar called Teens of Preduce that was a collabo with hip Chinatown hangout Teens of Thailand.
Construction on the massive skatepark began a year ago and is the realization of the skate brand鈥檚 biggest pipe dream.
鈥淥pening a skatepark had always been a dream for us, from the very beginning,鈥 Preduce cofounder and cinematographer Janchai Montrelerdrasme told 黑料社. 鈥淎fter 20 years, we decided it was time to relocate and upgrade our brand with a full-blown skatepark and storage area all in one place.鈥
The skate park includes bowls, pyramids, China banks, hubbas, Euro gaps, handrails, double stair sets.
鈥淲hile I wouldn鈥檛 say our skatepark is the biggest, we make up for the variety of ramps and rails on offer,鈥 Janchai said.
Indeed, the past couple of years saw a skating boom across Thailand, with several new skate and skate-surf locations opening around town.
Baan Preduce鈥檚 Aug. 20 opening will feature music, food and drinks, and tricks by the Preduce team and other local brands and skaters.
Preduce Skateboards opened in 2002 as the first Thai skateboarding brand selling its own gear. Its Siam Square store operated for 16 years.
Baan Preduce is located a few minutes from BTS Phra Khanong on Farmwattana Road, just off Rama IV Road near the Kluai Nam Thai intersection.
