Activists hold ‘white flag’ march to campaign for an end to civil conflicts

Earlier today, around 100 activists carrying white flags marched from Shwedagon Pagoda Road to Yangon City Hall to campaign for an end to the ongoing civil wars within Myanmar.

The march was organized by the political group Mass Movement Acceleration Network (MMAN), and called on both the Myanmar military and various ethnic armed forces to cease fighting.

Participants handed out white flags to citizens that they encountered on the march route, encouraging them to put up the flags in front of their houses, cars, tricycles, and shops as a sign of demanding national peace.

鈥淧eople in ethnic areas around Myanmar are in trouble. Some have lost their lives, and entire villages have even been destroyed. Despite their ethnicity, they are also Myanmar people, which is why we鈥檙e here demanding peace,鈥 said Ba Win, a participant.

Once they arrived at City Hall, organizers gave speeches that further encouraged citizens to demand peace and raise awareness about this movement.

Slogans that were seen at the march included 鈥楽upport Peace鈥, 鈥楽top Civil War Now鈥, and 鈥楻aise White Flags鈥.

MMAN will be promoting the white flag campaign throughout the rest of December.
