Dear ������ Yangon Readers,

As you may have noticed, we have not been updating the ������ Yangon site as frequently as we used to. We understand that this may have caused some confusion or concern among our readers, and we would like to take this opportunity to explain the reason behind our reduced coverage.

We started ������ Yangon back in 2015, a time when there was great hope for Myanmar’s future and its democracy. Over the years, our reporters have covered everything from human rights abuses and the country’s emerging meme culture to an opium war queen and Yangon’s burgeoning F&B sector.

But, obviously, everything changed after the military junta’s coup in February 2021. Although we have endeavored to keep publishing stories on ������ Yangon after that, conditions have made it difficult for us to work with reporters within the country (who can face immense risks simply for being journalists) and consistently produce quality stories serving audiences within Yangon and Myanmar. 

For that reason, we will no longer be updating ������ Yangon on a regular basis, although we will occasionally still publish stories about what’s happening in Myanmar that will be of interest to our readership throughout the region, particularly those that may raise awareness about the human rights abuses that continue to take place there. 

We appreciate all of the many fantastic writers and editors that have contributed to ������ Yangon and all of the incredible support our readership has given us over the years. 

Our hearts go out to the people of Myanmar and we hope for the day when independent media will be able to flourish in the country once more.
