Dreams of witnessing the iconic cherry blossoms of Japan’s Sakura trees in person may have withered on the vine, but Singapore can settle for some very similar-looking trees that showing their colors this month.
Singapore’s got pretty pink flowers of its own courtesy of stands of Trumpet trees, aka Tabebuia rosea, blooming now throughout the country’s parks, from Tampines to Jurong. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong even gave the trees a shoutout today.
“Over the weekend, you may have seen our trees and shrubs taking on beautiful and colourful hues in estates and neighbourhood parks across Singapore. While they look like Japan’s sakura blossoms, you won’t have to travel far to see these displays!” he wrote.

According to , the trees, a type of begonia, grow to upward of 35-meters high.While the trees flower for only a few weeks around the same time as the famed cherry blossoms, each Trumpet flower, which grows to about 5 centimeters, only blooms several days before withering.
The trees have been spotted at River Valley, Jurong and in neighborhood parks like that of Tampines Sun Plaza Park and Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park.
