A Catholic school remains tight-lipped about what led one of its students to be hospitalized yesterday, only adding that he fell from a height in a common area after recess time.聽

The St. Joseph Institution Catholic school for boys said it was alerted to the incident at 11:30am, at which point it called an ambulance and the injured boy鈥檚 family. It declined to give further details, citing the ongoing police investigation.聽

鈥淭he boy has received medical treatment and is warded for monitoring,鈥 a statement to the media said.聽

The student was taken to the KK Women鈥檚 and Children鈥檚 hospital yesterday. School Principal Adrian Danker said in a letter to parents and guardians that it was concerned about those who saw what happened.聽

鈥淪ome of our students witnessed the incident. The SJI pastoral team and counsellors have attended to them and their well-being,鈥 he said. Danker also advised them not to share any photos or video of what happened.

Police told reporters yesterday that they did not suspect foul play and did not mention whether it was an act of self-harm.聽

The incident comes as students and teachers of Singapore鈥檚 elite River Valley High School mourn the death of a 13-year-old student killed with an axe.聽
