Not all of Singapore thinks the otters that feast on pond fish are a nuisance. Some actually go above and beyond to save them.
Ottercity, a community keeping watch on the cutesy but violent mammals, said last night that the condition had worsened of an injured pup with a banged-up paw spotted since last week at Marina Bay. Animal authorities with Mandai Wildlife Reserves and Animal Concerns Research and Education Society, or ACRES, are looking to bring it in.
鈥淗owever, her vital signs changed late this morning with multiple reports coming in from the ground that she appears to be getting weaker. Vets are also of the opinion that she is not going to get better,鈥 announced the community, which is followed by more than 180,000 people.
The group said the 17-week-old pup and its family may have gotten into a fight with another tribe of otters Thursday, leaving a mum and pup injured. Thankfully, the older otter is recovering well but not so much for the pup.
After keeping an eye on the pup daily, they found that its condition had deteriorated and had an 鈥渋ntervention operation鈥 approved yesterday afternoon. They are currently working with ACRES to bring it in.
The pup worried netizens when it was seen dragging its body across the floor in a posted by an onlooker last Saturday.
There are about 90 otters from over 20 families wandering Singapore. The otter-loving communities have at least 40 enthusiasts keeping watch and regularly monitoring the otters to provide updates online.
