The new year continued its slippery start over the weekend with another mudslide coming down for the second time this month in the same area.
Transportation authorities announced today that workers were dispatched to clean up the mess at the Tampines Expressway near Loyang Avenue again on Sunday, over a week after the first incident which destroyed a portion of highway railings and spilled into the avenue.
鈥淲e have repaired the part of the slope beside TPE(PIE) exit to Loyang Avenue that eroded over the weekend due to continuous rain,鈥 the authority said in a statement.聽
The affected portion of Loyang Avenue will remain closed until Friday, it added.聽
The same slope was hit by mudslides on Jan. 2 after heavy rain fell all over Singapore. Landslides were also reported that day in Outram, Chua Chu Kang, Kusu Island, Lazarus, and St. John鈥檚.聽The weather agency said this month鈥檚 added up to 632.8 millimeters, making it the wettest January since the 鈥90s. Singaporeans can expect more through the week, with temperatures falling as low as 22C.
