Indonesia, India, Qatar, UAE and Saudi Arabia next on Singapore鈥檚 travel list

Singapore aims to reopen travel with five more nations by early December, aviation officials announced yesterday evening.

Vaccinated travelers may journey to and from Indonesia and India beginning Nov. 29, and Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates from Dec. 6 onward, according to The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore.

鈥淪ingapore will continue with the cautious, progressive reopening of its borders and extend the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) to more countries,鈥 it announced.

Today, there are 13 countries approved under Singapore鈥檚 so-called Vaccinated Travel Lane, with three more 鈥 Malaysia, Finland, and Sweden 鈥 also starting Nov. 29.

Reconnecting to Indonesia depends on Jakarta reciprocating. Transport Minister S Iswaran said yesterday that they plan to increase flights to Jakarta from two to four times daily over a period of time once Indonesia reopens to Singapore, a move it noted has not come despite the archipelago 鈥渦nilaterally鈥 reopening mid-October to 19 other nations.

鈥淲e hope that Indonesia will likewise soon reopen its borders to travelers from Singapore,鈥 Iswaran said.

He added that they are looking to resume flights to Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai by Nov. 29. Only government-chartered flights that carry passengers from Singapore to India are currently allowed.

鈥嬧婾nder the vaccinated travel scheme, travelers are not subjected to quarantine upon arrival and instead have to test negative for COVID-19 prior to departure and on arrival.

Singapore continues to record a weekly average of more than 2,000 cases daily. As of Sunday, 94% of the country had been fully vaccinated. In total, Singapore recorded 鈥嬧239,272 infections and 594 deaths since the start of the outbreak.
