A 57-year-old man who wanted to do a No. 2 might be the first jailed for a never-before-seen speeding case in Singapore.
Hoo Tee Tuan was ordered to jail seven weeks yesterday on one count of rash driving and another for failing to stop for a police officer as he sped 180kph against traffic to relieve himself in March. The man, who had been suffering from irritable bowel syndrome for at least a year, was also suspended from driving for four years.聽
鈥淗oo is really sorry for what happened, he is contrite and remorseful and has rendered full cooperation to traffic police,鈥 Hoo鈥檚 lawyer Lim Soo Peng told the court.
According to court testimony/the police, officers gave chase at around 3am on March 1. The driver was on his way from the Marina Bay Sands casino to use the toilet at his brother鈥檚 24-hour coffee shop in Jurong when he beat two red lights and went against traffic toward Boon Lay Way. He was stopped when a taxi blocked the entrance of a Jurong East car park.聽聽
Hoo鈥檚 pants were already soiled when the cops pulled him over. Plastic sheets had to be laid out in the police vehicle before his poopy pants could enter.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Deborah Lee said his unfortunate bowel syndrome was not a valid reason for reckless driving as he could have chosen to stop at any location.
