Are we gonna add throwing bikes off HDB flats to our list of national pastimes? In yet another case of shared bicycle abuse, a 47-year-old man was arrested for tossing聽a bike off the higher levels of an HDB flat.
reported that the bike聽was believed to be an ofo one, and it聽was hauled聽off the 15th floor of Block 11 Upper Boon Keng Road in the wee hours of Thursday morning (June 22). The man allegedly behind the deed was purportedly聽drunk and found asleep along the corridor of the same floor.
Police were called in after they received a report at about 5:38am, and Bedok Police Division officers arrested the suspect that same day.聽If found guilty of a rash act, he could face six months聽in jail, up to a $2,500 fine, or both.
This is the latest in a series of shared bicycle abuse cases, with hordes of bad press hurled聽at the shared bicycle start-ups due to a lack of enforcement and prevention of incidents like these.
Recently, a 13-year-old was also arrested for throwing an ofo bike off the 30th storey of an HDB flat, and four teenagers aged 16 to 18 were arrested for flinging聽a bike into a canal and subsequently causing public nuisance at聽Punggol MRT station and interchange. Both these cases were filmed by the teens themselves聽and uploaded onto social media sites, suggesting they were聽deliberate attempts at causing mischief.
The police have stated that they聽do not take lightly “such dangerous acts that endanger the lives of others and will take swift action against the perpetrators”.
