Filipino netizens are currently amused by a photo of a Filipino household staple that is making its rounds online. Yesterday, Japanese store Muji posted a photo of a very chic and very expensive聽tabo (water dipper) that costs a whopping PHP365 (US$7.10).
“This is not your ordinary bath dipper. Aside from its clean and simple design, the angle of its handle is designed to make it easier to scoop water with less weight on hand,” Muji wrote on its caption.
The post has gone viral and has been shared almost 7,000 times since it appeared online.
A tabo is commonly seen in homes in the Philippines, where they are often used when taking a bath. Instead of a showerhead, many wash themselves using a tabo by scooping water out from a bucket. They’re usually only around PHP50 (US$.97), which is probably why netizens were amused to discover Muji’s version.
Judging by the comments on the post, most people think it’s funny. Writer Ed Geronia made fun of Muji.
He wrote: “[The] PHP40 (US$0.77) 迟补产辞听from the wet market is still superior.”
Jeffrey Pineda sarcastically called Muji’s 迟补产辞听“an engineering feat.”
Mark Vejano called it “revolutionary” and “a gift to humanity.”
Lawrence Tiquia said Muji’s聽迟补产辞听will turn water into wine.
