No more home quarantine for travelers returning to Malaysia starting Friday

Travelers returning to Malaysia from Friday onwards will be taken to designated centers for mandatory two-week quarantine instead of their homes, Defense Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced today.聽

The new measure was announced as Malaysia continues to report COVID-19 cases, including 15 new infections today. Four of which were imported.聽

鈥淔rom Friday (July 24) onwards, there will be no more home quarantine,鈥 he . 鈥淨uarantine will be done at designated centers.鈥

鈥淭hose in quarantine will bear the full costs, whether it鈥檚 in a hotel or a location provided by the government,鈥 Ismail added.

As of today, a total of 8,815 people have been infected with COVID-19 in Malaysia. The death toll stands at 123.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday said that the government was mulling making face masks compulsory in the country.聽
