A fashion designer from Batu Pahat, Johor Bahru recently shared online photos of her handbags made from recycled packaging once used to wrap iconic Malaysian snacks, namely Hup Seng crackers and Gardenia bread.
Known as Wan鈥檚 Handmade, the Johorean fashion designer shared a Facebook on June 12, citing her love for Hup Seng crackers, which according to her originated in Johor Bahru.
鈥淗up Seng is a brand from Batu Pahat,鈥 the Facebook post began, featuring photos of a woman holding a clasped handbag adorned with Hup Seng cream crackers鈥 packaging.
鈥淗up Seng was founded in the 1950s by four brothers. They were still selling pastries and cookies from a van. Hup Seng crackers appeared in 1958, and it鈥檚 still so deeply loved by everyone,鈥 it read. It has been shared by more than 4,400 people so far.
Indeed, founded in , Hup Seng is one of the oldest snack-manufacturing companies in Malaysia.
Wan also shared online of a crossbody bag made using Gardenia鈥檚 classic white bread packaging.聽
Both works are part of a collection aptly called 鈥淩ecycled Bags.鈥
The fashion designer isn鈥檛 new to snacky crafts. Last year, she also created clasp made from recycled potato chips packaging.
