The COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak has hit especially close to home for Hong Kong鈥檚 health authorities after two men believed to have been infected with the novel virus recently visited the Hospital Authority鈥檚 headquarters.
Unidentified sources told RTHK today that the city鈥檚 57th confirmed coronavirus patient and another man who has preliminarily tested positive for the illness had been at the Hospital Authority鈥檚 offices on Argyle Street for a meeting a few days ago, and that .
The 58th patient is currently being treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Mai Tei.
His 54-year-old colleague, who is still awaiting final confirmation of his COVID-19 diagnosis, had first consulted a private doctor on Feb. 7 after falling sick. However, the doctor gave him the all-clear three days later, and it took another visit to the same doctor, and later to Pamela Youde Netherosole Eastern Hospital, before he preliminarily tested positive for the virus.
Health officials explained that the man did not demonstrate the usual symptoms of the illness, and his risk of being infected with the virus was believed to be low due to his lack of travel history during the incubation period and his presumed lack of contact with other known carriers.
