Every day been feeling the same? Good news: The weekend returned to Bangkok as life poured into its streets, bringing a return of activity β and traffic.
By foot and behind the wheel, people were on the move at levels not seen since early March, according to mobility tracking data, as fear of infection continues to fade. Three new COVID-19 cases were announced Saturday and none on Sunday. No deaths have been attributed to the coronavirus since May 9.
After weeks of little more to report than occasional fender benders and weather reports, crowd-sourced traffic news Β was back in business with reports of heavy traffic and long waits.
Bangkok was the least mobile for a monthβs time between late March and late April. Driving fell by 60% and walking by 80% since a Jan. 13 baseline, the data show. Provided by Apple and therefore only a snapshot of its users, the data shows Bangkokians have started going out again since late April at rates that are picking up steam. At least those with iPhones.
The weekend all but lost meaning as many residents sheltered in place at home, with large Friday surges in movement melting away. The last βproperβ weekend appeared to be March 6. May 15 saw some people putting their Friday to use as well.
