The shophouse in Talad Noi that was once occupied by SoulBar — the locally beloved jazz, ���dzܱ�,��and funk bar that’s since relocated to Silom — has opened its doors again, this time as a vintage-style music bar called To More. The new boutique bar serves quality cocktails and, according to its owners, delivers “more than jazz” music.

The name of the bar conveys its ambitious aims. Not only does it sound like “two more” — as one would say when doubling drink orders — but it also conveys a change for the better, co-owner Chawarit “Boyd” Ratanawongsarot told ������ Bangkok during a recent visit.

Inspired by the famous cabaret show Moulin Rouge, the space at To More is refurbished with wooden walls, a prominent vintage-style curve bar, globe pendant lights, and red curtains. In the middle is an elevated stage where musicians and DJs play each night — visitors can choose to sit at plush bar stools, or velvet couches to watch them perform.

Boyd doesn’t want to define To More as a jazz bar, and said that the venue aims to offer a good mix of jazz, funk, R&B, and hip-hop — and perhaps even more genres on the musical spectrum.

Behind the bar is Pacthaya “Ble” Chaimuang, who has been a mixologist for over a decade. Many of his signature cocktails at To More are named after well-known shows and movies. There’s the Phantom of Opera (tequila, Grand Marnier, jalapeno slices, orange juice, lime juice and agave syrup, THB320) and the Chicago (Amaretto, citrus sweet & sour mix, and lemon salt, THB260).

Another concoction, The King and I (THB280), is a cigar smoke-infused cocktail, with coconut, cinnamon syrup, Angostura bitters, Grand Marnier, dark rum, and orange.

The list goes on — there’s the easy-to-drink Cinderella (gin, honey syrup, and lime juice, THB 260) and Mamma Mia (vodka, lychee liqueur, lychee syrup, citrus sweet & sour mix, egg white, and mint leaves, THB 280). Those who fancy beer cocktails can opt for Honeymoon in Vegas (pineapple, elderflower syrup, and lemon, THB 220) or the Cabaret (passion fruit, mint, and lime for THB 220).

Currently, the busiest nights at the bar are on Fridays and Saturdays, when notable bands perform: Supergoods play on Friday, while on Saturday, soulful singer Bessie D. Smith takes the stage, along with a local jazz ensemble named Mode.

Sunday, on the other hand, is reserved as “vinyl day” — when everyone is welcome to bring their favorite vinyl records and play them at the bar.

“We want to build a community where people walk in and enjoy the good vibes,” said Boyd.
